IADC RigPass FAQ

Is the IADC RigPass certificate accepted internationally?

Yes. IADC RigPass is recognised by drilling contractors and operators globally — North America, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Most major IOCs and NOCs accept it as the entry-level safety orientation requirement.

How long does the IADC RigPass course take?

The course is approximately 8 hours of total study time. Because it is self-paced, you can complete it in one sitting or spread it across several days. Most students finish within 2–3 days.

Does the IADC RigPass certificate expire?

No. The certificate itself does not have an expiration date. However, many employers prefer crews to take a refresher every 2–3 years to stay current with safety practice.

What is the passing score for the RigPass exam?

You need to score 80% or higher on the 100-question final assessment to pass. If you do not pass on the first attempt, you can retake the exam.

Can I take the IADC RigPass course on my phone?

Is IADC RigPass the same as SafeLand or SafeGulf?

IADC RigPass replaced both. SafeGulf was retired in December 2020, and IADC stopped issuing SafeLand endorsements at the same time. The RigPass curriculum exceeds both former programs and is accepted everywhere SafeLand or SafeGulf used to be required.

Do I need any prior experience to take the course?

No prior oil and gas experience is required. The course is designed as an entry-level orientation for new workers, although experienced personnel often take it as a refresher or to obtain documented IADC certification.
